Museum circuit

Follow the guide...

Once past the porch and the huge paved courtyard, you go into the building on the ground floor and reception/ticket office. The visit begins...

Tapestry gallery on the ground floor

Visitors can admire this unique world heritage masterpiece protected from daylight. Visits are by audio-guide commenting each of the 58 scenes. The commentaries have been translated into 14 languages, and there is a simplified version in French and English especially for children.

At the end of the commentary, you can of course remain inside the gallery as long as you like to admire the tapestry – nearly a thousand years old and, fortunately, so well preserved.

The visit continues with the imposing grand staircase leading up to the first and second floor.

Exhibition room on the first floor

Immerse yourself in the world of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings!

With the help of illustrated theme signposts, maps, models and a complete, easy to read genealogical chart, you will find the answers to all the questions you might have about life in Normandy and England at the time of William the Conqueror. You will know everything there is to know about the Bayeux technique and the troubled history of the Tapestry.

Cinema on the second floor – access via the central staircase in the interpretation room or by lift.

There is a film lasting 16 minutes, shown in French and in English (alternate showings). While waiting for the next film, children can enjoy a colouring session to keep them busy. You then go back down to the ground floor where you reach the museum bookshop.
